Skills and knowledge are the driving forces of economic growth and social development for any country. India currently faces a severe shortage of well-trained, skilled workers. It is estimated that only 2.3 % of the workforce in India has undergone formal skill training. Large sections of the educated workforce have little or no job skills, making them largely unemployable. Therefore, we have initiated to focus on scaling up skill training efforts to meet the demands of employers and drive economic growth.
Maharishi Skill Centres will run certificate courses in the field of skill development. Existing Institutions are also eligible to apply under this scheme.
The objective of the scheme is to introduce career and market-oriented, skill enhancing add-on courses that have utility for job, self-employment and empowerment of the students.
- The courses offered under the scheme are of inter-disciplinary nature. There is no watertight compartments and studentshave the freedom to diversify into various fields not necessarily related with their core discipline.
- The prime purpose of the scheme is to provide knowledge skils and aptitude for occupational employment in wage sector.
- The scheme helps in self-employment/self-entrepreneurship.
